Heather had been a recreational runner in her 20’s, but kept finding herself injured.  While recovering from yet another running injury, she took up bicycling and swimming.  Once she could run again, she decided to put all three sports together and completed her first triathlon in the fall of 2005, the Finger Lakes Triathlon in Canandaigua, New York, a sprint-distance race. Since then, she has finished numerous triathlons of all distances, including Ironman Lake Placid in July 2010.

In 2011, her first year as a member of Fortius Racing, Heather had an amazing year.  She set several personal best race times, including Wildflower Long Course and Vineman 70.3.  She also earned a spot on the podium at a number of races, including first place Athena at Redondo Beach Triathlon and second place in her age group at Hansen Dam Triathlon.  At the Nautica Malibu Classic triathlon, not only did she take first place in the Athena division and set a personal record by seven minutes, she also placed within the top ten percent of her age group, securing herself a spot at the USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals in August 2012.

Her goal for 2012 is to become a faster runner and to eventually qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Heather's blog, VeganHeartDoc.com, features her training adventures and advice on heart health, diet, and fitness.
