Meet Coach Gerardo Barrios

Coach Gerardo’s mission in life is to encourage and motivate people to enjoy an active lifestyle through setting challenging goals in endurance sports, that strengthen the mind, body, and spirit. He began  running in 2003, and after countless hours of running and cross-training in the pool and on the bike, triathlon was the next natural step. Gerardo has finished over 90 triathlons since 2004, including 24 half Ironmans and several full Ironman triathlons including  IM Western Australia, IM Brazil, IM Mt. Tremblant, IM Lake Tahoe, IM Boulder and IM Santa Rosa. Gerardo is a 3-time Ironman 70.3 World Championship participant and a 6-time Boston Marathon qualifier. His background as an educator, allows him to teach and coach his clients with passion. Gerardo uses a mix of scientific-based training principles and his own racing experiences to create training plans that will exceed his athletes' expectations. 

Over the past 12 years, Coach Gerardo has guided hundreds of athletes to the finish line of endurance sports events, including, marathons, ultramarathons and all triathlon distances.  Fortius Coaching and the Fortius Racing Team[was born out Gerardo's desire to build a community of people committed to becoming stronger athletes. Fortius provides an environment that fosters teamwork and healthy competition and strives to make endurance sports a way of life. 


About Ray

Ray Barrios has been the team manager from the beginning. Ray is also a running certified coach and has completed 6 Ironman events, 30+ marathons and multiple ultramarathons including a 100 miler. Ray provides day to day operation assistance to our team members including calendaring events, working with team sponsorships and partnerships and directing our training camps.

About Kelly

Kelly Barrios is the team’s outreach manager and run leader. Kelly has been racing triathlons since 2011 and has completed all distances including two ironman events and multiple running and ultra running events. Kelly leads regular training runs at the track and on the trails and is currently taking a break from triathlon to raise two baby boys.
